Tried and True Tips for a PERFECT Date Night in Chattanooga

Kick off 2022 with 6 do's and don’ts for an amazing Chattanooga date night!
-
1. Do spend time with the right person! You need to actually like the person you are going to spend a few hours with or at least be intrigued enough to want to get to know more about them. If you get this one right, it makes everything else fall into place.
-
2. Don’t plan an activity that you won’t enjoy! If you have an irrational fear of all insects, don’t plan a picnic in the grass during the summer (even though that is a nice date idea for someone else). This might seem like a no-brainer but you’d be surprised how often people forget this tidbit. You probably have your own horror stories on this topic.
-
3. Do make dinner a starting point for the evening and not your only activity! If you know where to go, there’s no shortage of outstanding local restaurants in Chattanooga to set the vibe for your date. Give quirky and fun hometown favorite Champy’s a try for Mississippi Delta fried chicken, hand-rolled hot tamales and homemade strawberry cake. Pizzeria Cortile is another gem off the beaten path with some of the very best wood-fired pizzas on this side of Italy, seriously! The restaurant is cozy and welcoming, where it’s oh so easy to talk over an app of Burrata and Puffy Bread followed by pizzas with names like Fancy Pants, or Mr. Potato Head, and this is important, you have to save room for Nutella Rolls for dessert.

4. Do something new! Plan something that breaks the mold for both of you. This might take a bit of planning ahead. Make reservations in advance to take an after-hours Lantern Tour at Ruby Falls where you’ll explore the underground cave with a guide and see the stunning, record-breaking waterfall by the light of hand-held lanterns. While you are there, don’t miss the twilight view from the top of historic Lookout Mountain Tower, at night you’ll pretty much have this view to yourselves. Combine dinner and fun with The Sweet and Savory Classroom at Date Night Classes where you jump into action with a hands-on chef demonstration and then feast on what you prepared. If you didn’t have time to plan ahead, a starlit stroll across the Walnut Street pedestrian bridge high above the Tennessee River is another great option. Stop by the Ed Johnson Memorial on the south side of the bridge to learn about Ed Johnson and the heroic efforts that changed the course of American history and civil rights. Remember to keep #2 in mind while you make plans.

5. Do silence your cellphone! This one needs no explanation. It’s never a good sign when your date pays more attention to their screen than you.

-
6. Don’t be hard on yourself if there are natural lulls in the conversation. Take this as an opportunity to ask your date questions about topics you know they are interested in. Just be sure to listen to what they have to say.
