September, 2012, Detour

September 26, 2012

We didn't know what we were going to see when we drove up Lookout Mountain on a recent trip home from the Smokies and Charleston. Your tour guide was funny and the walk was interesting. We have seen caves, since we are from "the Cave State." We have not, however, seen anything like Ruby Falls. It was amazing. I only wish there had been more time there, at the base of the falls. You need it to realize what you are seeing - an underground waterfall! On our trips to all fifty states, we have detoured to see each area's waterfalls because I love them. This includes the Poconos, Rainbow Falls in Hawaii, and Niagara several times, but Ruby Falls is unique and unforgettable. I'm glad we took that detour from the highway going home.

Down below Lookout Mountain There is a delight for the eyes. Far below there is a fountain As clear and bright as a winter sky. Our hearts are beating with rapid anticipation. Our path is leading to our unique destination. Stillness, coolness, peacefulness Give way to roaring and pounding falls God's creation in all its awesomeness Casts a spray of joy on us all Becky Allen
